Skeptical as I am of audio books and how they circumvent the whole process of actually reading, I suppose the point is, who has time to burn through Canterbury Tales or Dante's Inferno anymore? Maybe on my 30 second, one-stop Metro commute from the east to west end of campus. If it's the difference between ignorance of the seven circles of hell, or an audio version....well shucks.
